How To Shape Your Golf Ball

No matter what your skill level, it is important to have the knowledge of how to shape your golf ball if necessary. Not all of us can hit these shots on demand time and time again like the guys and girls on tour, but if you find yourself in a predicament on the golf course where you are behind a tree or playing a hole with a dog-leg, it is a useful tool to have in your arsenal to pull out a draw or fade.
Follow these simple steps below and you should have a basic knowledge of how to play these shots if need be.
1. Hitting a draw.
On the picture below, we have three arrows; each is important in many ways. The white line indicates that of your target line; this is where we want the ball to finish. The yellow line indicates where we want the clubface to be aligned when we strike and finally the red line, which is where we want the club path to be swinging through impact.
Step 1. Line your clubface to where you want the golf ball to start. This is not your target line, this will be somewhere to the right of your target line.
Step 2. Aim your body (feet, knees, hips and shoulders) to the right of your target also. This will help you to swing the clubhead to the right of target and clubface alignment.
Step 3. Hit the shot. When we strike, the clubface has to be aligned right of target (yellow line) and the swing path (red line) further right of the clubface alignment. This will tilt the spin axis of the ball, creating the shape similar to that on the picture below.

2. Hitting a fade.
On the picture below, we have three arrows; each is important in many ways. The white line indicates that of your target line; this is where we want the ball to finish. The yellow line indicates where we want the clubface to be aligned when we strike and finally the red line, which is where we want the club path to be swinging through impact.

Step 2. Aim your body (feet, knees, hips and shoulders) to the left of your target also. This will help you to swing the clubhead to the left of target and clubface alignment.
Step 3. Hit the shot. When we strike, the clubface has to be aligned left of target (yellow line) and the swing path (red line) further left of the clubface alignment. This will tilt the spin axis of the ball, creating the shape similar to that on the picture below.

Stick to these principles and give it a go. I would first recommend trying these out on the driving range and not during your weekend medal!!
